We just made some changes to the BigchainDB Testnet. I figured I should share what those changes mean for BigchainDB Testnet users.

We decided we don’t need people to sign up for an account before they can start posting transactions to the BigchainDB Testnet. That might cause problems, but we doubt it. Signing up for a BigchainDB Testnet account has always been free and easy, so if people wanted to do bad things, they could have done them already, but they didn’t. Since the new BigchainDB Testnet doesn’t require accounts, you won’t have to include an app_key or an app_id in any of your HTTP requests (and you shouldn’t: it will complain if you do).

We updated the BigchainDB docs and web pages so they don’t mention any specific testnet Root URLs. (The main one is https://test.bigchaindb.com, but that might change.) The old website dedicated to the BigchainDB Testnet is gone. If you want to learn how to connect to the new BigchainDB Testnet, and see some example code, just go to the BigchainDB “Get Started” page.
